The next president to inherit America’s embarrassing digital divide

Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton declared that by 2010 “100 percent of households in America will have the option of affordable broadband.” Despite some increase in Internet access in the U.S., the digital gap between the rich and the poor and the rural and the urban dwellers persists. Income disparity is one of the main reasons many Americans cannot afford Internet access at home. Broadband providers prefer urban customers because they can save on infrastructure in cities, leaving rural areas underserviced.
