Google Fiber cancels installation in Kansas City

Google Fiber sent emails cancelling installation and refunding deposits to thousands of residents in Kansas City—without explanation, In October 2016 Google Fiber announced ending operations in 10 cities where it had not committed fully yet. Last fall Google parent Alphabet Inc. announced that 9 percent of its staff would be let go. Craig Barratt, then head of the Access unit that includes Google Fiber, wrote in his blog that the company is pulling back fiber-to-the-home services in large cities like Dallas and Los Angeles. DSL Reports quotes Google Fiber as being committed to providing continued service in the eight deployed cities, including Kansas City.
